Description

Target Audience:
This training was developed for all child welfare professionals including jurists, court staff, prosecutors, attorneys, LGALs, CPS and foster care workers, tribes, private agencies, law enforcement, mental health providers, and education professionals.

Background and Purpose:
This full-day training includes presentations from two national experts who will provide participants with information on how bias can influence decision-making in all youth-serving agencies and strategies to make quality decisions to improve work performance.

Speakers:
National expert Rita Cameron Wedding, Ph.D.
serves as faculty to the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and is the Chair of the department of Women’s Studies at Sacramento State University. Colorblindness, stereotyping, implicit bias and institutional racism can create a bias effect that results in subtle differences in the application of policies and procedures and therefore how children and their families are served. Dr. Cameron Wedding will explore the “bias effect” and provide participants with intervention strategies that can improve outcomes for youth in all systems.

Business Psychologist, Roger Hall, Ph.D., has extensive experience in providing professionals throughout the county with training to enhance their lives and work performance. Our brains are overloaded with information that impacts our ability to make objective decisions. Participants will learn about positive cognitive strategies to help achieve desired long-term outcomes and manage information overload.
